5 Learning contents
How to find the right learning content?
Where can I find an overview of the range of eLearning programmes in terms of content? What learning contents are available on the market?
Anyone who wishes to integrate eLearning in internal training programmes should consult data-bases on continuing education in the Internet, overviews in specialist journals and advisory reports from chambers of industry and commerce and industrial associations. In the second part of this chapter "Where should I look for the right courses?”, you will find an overview of select organisations where you can begin your search for eLearning offerings that are available on the market.
Looking at which topics are offered most frequently as integrated eLearning based on a continuing education database (see figure) reveals that cross-sectional competences, such as imparting specialist knowledge (e.g. double entry book-keeping, controlling) and know-how regarding standard computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Linux) and IT-based business processes (e.g. databases, programming languages), have the greatest circulation. These are followed by soft skills, which deal with how to behave or conduct oneself and communicate (e.g. rhetoric). Less common are courses that focus on teaching technically-oriented professional skills (e.g. introduction of lighting technology), or social soft skills (solving conflicts and working in a team, etc.). eLearning offers for foreign languages, law, quality assurance and new product training are available to a much lesser extent than interdisciplinary learning contents.
